# Glossary

> Definitions of the metrics, objects, and features you'll find in Profound

This glossary defines the metrics, objects, and features you'll find in Profound. For definitions of more general AEO/AI search terms, see our [AI Search Glossary](https://www.tryprofound.com/blog/ai-search-glossary).

<Tip>Search the terms you're interested in with Ctrl+F or Cmd+F.</Tip>

## A

### Accuracy Score

A [FactCheck](/answer-engine-insights/factcheck/about) metric that shows how much of what answer engines say about your brand is correct. Profound extracts the claims made in AI responses about your brand, checks each one against your [Knowledge Base](/context-manager/knowledge-bases-and-brand-kits), and reports the share that is accurate. The score is calculated as accurate claims / (accurate claims + inaccurate claims).

For example, FactCheck extracts 50 claims. 30 of those can be verified against the Knowledge Base, of which 24 are accurate and 6 are inaccurate. The accuracy score is 24 / (24 + 6) = 80%. The 20 unverifiable claims don't affect the score.

Learn more: [About FactCheck](/answer-engine-insights/factcheck/about)

### Activity Logs

A single audit trail of events in your Profound organization, such as sign-ins, permission changes, and configuration updates. Admins use Activity Logs to review who did what and when. Available under Platform Management.

Learn more: [About Activity Logs](/platform-config/activity-logs/about), [Activity logs platform documentation](/platform-config/activity-logs/about)

### Admin

A Profound [role](/platform-config/people/roles-and-permissions) with full access to organization settings, including team management, [Prompt Designer](/answer-engine-insights/prompt-designer) access, and usage reporting. Some actions, such as modifying prompts or creating [Agency Mode](/agencies/agency-mode-overview) workspaces, require the Admin role.

Learn more: [Roles and permissions](/platform-config/people/roles-and-permissions)

### AEO Content Scorecard

A content optimization node for [Agents](/agents/about) that scores a piece of content against AEO best practices and returns recommendations.

Learn more: [AEO Content Scorecard](/agents/nodes/content-optimization/aeo-content-scorecard)

### Agency Mode

A mode for agencies and consultancies that manage several brands under one account. Each brand gets its own workspace with independent prompts, competitors, tracked platforms, and configuration. Agency Mode supports short-term pitch workspaces and long-term client workspaces, both managed from the Agency Mode dashboard.

Learn more: [Agency Mode overview](/agencies/agency-mode-overview)

### Agent

An automated workflow you build in Profound. An Agent consists of connected nodes: each node does one task, such as querying Profound data, prompting an AI model, fetching a web page, or publishing to a CMS. Agents can run on their own, on a schedule, from [Sheets](/sheets/getting-started), through [AI Marketer](/aim/about), or through [Profound MCP](/mcp/overview). Running an Agent consumes [credits](/agents/credits).

Learn more: [About Agents](/agents/about)

### Agent Analytics

Infrastructure-level monitoring of how AI crawlers and assistants access your website. Profound collects request data at the CDN or server layer, classifies the AI traffic it finds, and reports on bot visits and AI referrals by page. Agent Analytics feeds the bot and referral data in [Pages](/pages/about) and powers [network benchmarking](/pages/about#network-benchmarking).

Learn more: [About Agent Analytics](/agent-analytics/overview)

### Agent builder

The canvas where you assemble and test an [Agent](/agents/about). Add nodes, connect them, configure inputs, and test the Agent to see its estimated [credit](/agents/credits) cost.

Learn more: [Getting started with Agents](/agents/getting-started)

### Agent output

The final result an [Agent](/agents/about) produces after all its nodes run. Outputs can be generated content, a published article, a Slack message, a [Profound Document](/documents/about), or a confirmation that the run succeeded. In [Sheets](/sheets/getting-started), outputs display in the row that triggered the run.

Learn more: [About Agents](/agents/about)

### Agent run

One execution of an [Agent](/agents/about). Each run has a status and a result, and consumes [credits](/agents/credits) based on the complexity of the workflow. Review past runs and their outputs from the Agent's **Past runs** view.

Learn more: [Agent runs](/agents/agent-runs)

### AI Marketer

Your AI marketing teammate in Profound, also known as [Aim](/aim/about). It powers every chat surface in the platform, suggests [Projects](/projects/about) and tasks, and can use your [Agents](/agents/about) to do the work. It's grounded in the context you keep in [Context Manager](/context-manager/about).

Learn more: [About Profound's AI Marketer (Aim) ](/aim/about)

### AI referral

A visit to your website by a human who arrived from an AI answer, as opposed to a visit by an AI [bot](/agent-analytics/crawler-verification). Tracked by [Agent Analytics](/agent-analytics/overview).

Learn more: [About Sentiment](/answer-engine-insights/sentiment/about)

### Answer engine

An AI service that answers a user's prompt in real time, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews. Profound sends your prompts to answer engines every day and analyzes the responses. In Profound and in the API, a tracked answer engine is called a platform or model.

Learn more: [About Answer Engine Insights](/answer-engine-insights/about)

### Answer Engine Insights (AEI)

The Profound product that shows how your brand performs across answer engines. Profound runs your prompts daily, collects the responses, and turns them into metrics: Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Average Position, Citation Share, Citation Coverage, Sentiment Score, and Accuracy Score.

Learn more: [About Answer Engine Insights](/answer-engine-insights/about)

### Article Research Report

A research node for [Agents](/agents/about) that compiles a research report for a planned article, which downstream nodes can use to write grounded content.

Learn more: [Article Research Report](/agents/nodes/research/article-research-report)

### Average Position

The [average position](/answer-engine-insights/about#average-position) of your brand relative to competitors across responses. For example, McDonald's is listed first in half of the responses that mention it and second in the other half. Its Average Position is 1.5.

Learn more: [About Answer Engine Insights](/answer-engine-insights/about)

## B

### Blacklist

A mode in [Configure Competitors](/answer-engine-insights/settings#configure-competitors) that removes specific brands from all Answer Engine Insights analysis. Use it for brands that appear in your data but aren't relevant competitors, or that you aren't permitted to mention. Compare [Whitelist](/getting-started/glossary#whitelist).

Learn more: [Answer Engine Insights settings](/answer-engine-insights/settings)

### Bot

An automated agent that requests pages from your website. [Agent Analytics](/agent-analytics/overview) identifies and classifies AI bots by purpose: AI citation, AI indexing, AI training, and AI agent visits. Profound also operates [its own bots](/bots/introduction).

Learn more: [Crawler verification](/agent-analytics/crawler-verification), [Profound bots](/bots/introduction)

### Bot Visits

A view in [Pages](/pages/about) and [Agent Analytics](/agent-analytics/overview) that shows what AI bots see and can reach on your site: which crawlers visit a page, what content is hidden from them, and a `robots.txt` audit that lists the AI crawlers your site disallows. See also [Bot vs. Human Readable Content](/pages/about#bot-vs-human-readable-content).

Learn more: [About Pages](/pages/about)

### Bot vs. Human Readable Content

A [Pages](/pages/about) feature that compares what a person sees on a page with what an AI [bot](/agent-analytics/crawler-verification) can access. Content rendered with client-side JavaScript is often invisible to bots, so Pages flags hidden text blocks and headings and recommends how to expose them.

Learn more: [About Pages](/pages/about)

### Brand

The entity whose presence in AI answers you track. In Profound data, a brand is an asset. Your own brand is an owned asset, and competitors are the other assets in your category.

### Brand Context

The tab in [Context Manager](/context-manager/about) that holds your [knowledge records](/context-manager/about#knowledge-records-that-build-themselves) and identifies [knowledge gaps](/context-manager/about#identified-gaps).

Learn more: [About Context Manager](/context-manager/about)

### Brand Kit

A brand identity profile that defines how Profound should write on your behalf: brand information, writing style, and a writing sample. Profound generates a Brand Kit from your website URL, and you can edit it at any time. Where a [Knowledge Base](/context-manager/knowledge-bases-and-brand-kits) defines what to say, a Brand Kit defines how to say it. Part of [Context Manager](/context-manager/about).

Learn more: [Knowledge Bases and Brand Kits](/context-manager/knowledge-bases-and-brand-kits)

### Bulk Analysis

A [Prompt Volumes](/prompt-volumes/about) feature that compares several keywords at once and ranks them by prompt volume, so you can prioritize what to track.

Learn more: [About Prompt Volumes](/prompt-volumes/about)

Learn more: [Citation Share Node](/agents/nodes/data/citation-share)

### Claim

A statement an answer engine makes about your brand. [FactCheck](/answer-engine-insights/factcheck/about) extracts claims, checks them against your [Knowledge Base](/context-manager/knowledge-bases-and-brand-kits), and classifies each as accurate, inaccurate, or not relevant. Subjective statements are routed to [Sentiment](/answer-engine-insights/sentiment/about) instead.

Learn more: [About FactCheck](/answer-engine-insights/factcheck/about)

### Client workspace

A long-running brand [workspace](/agencies/agency-mode-overview) in [Agency Mode](/agencies/agency-mode-overview) for an agency's active clients. Learn more: [Add conditionals to Agents](/agents/how-tos/add-conditionals)

### Connector

A connection between Profound and a tool in your marketing stack, such as a CMS, analytics platform, or messaging app. Connectors power the [integrations](/integrations/overview) in [Agents](/agents/about) and the sources that [Context Manager](/context-manager/about) learns from.

Learn more: [About integrations and connectors](/integrations/about-integrations-and-connectors)
