# Connect Google Drive to Profound

> A guide on how to connect your Google account to Profound and give Agents access to your Google Drive files

This guide walks you through connecting your Google account to Profound. Once connected, Profound Agents can read and create Google Docs and Google Sheets, read Google Slides, and you can import Drive files into a [Knowledge Base](https://help.tryprofound.com/articles/5090178560-add-and-manage-knowledge-bases).

<Note>
  Google Drive is a personal connection. Each user connects their own Google account, and only that user can see the connection and use it in Agents and Knowledge Bases. Other people in your organization connect their own accounts.
</Note>

## How Profound accesses your files

Profound requests Google's `drive.file` permission, so it can only reach the files you select in Google's file picker and the files Profound creates for you. Profound can't list, search, or read anything else in your Drive.

That's why connecting takes two steps: sign in to Google, then select the files or folders that Profound is allowed to use. You can add more files at any time.

## Before you start

You'll need:

* A Google account with access to the files you want to use
* A [Profound](https://www.tryprofound.com/) account with the **Admin** role. Only admins can connect accounts (learn more in [Roles and permissions](/platform-config/people/roles-and-permissions))
* A browser that allows pop-ups for Profound. The Google sign-in opens in a pop-up window

## Setup guide

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Google Drive integration" id="step-1">
    * In Profound, select your organization name in the top-left corner of the platform, then select **Settings**.
    * In the left sidebar, select **Integrations** under **Account**.
    * Search for **Google Drive** and select it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect your Google account" id="step-2">
    * In the **Connected accounts** card, select **+ Add account**.
    * In the pop-up window, sign in to Google and allow the access Profound requests.
    * When the window closes, Profound shows an **Account connected** message, and your Google account email appears in the **Connected accounts** list with a **Personal** badge.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Give Profound access to files" id="step-3">
    * On the connected account row, select **Add files from Google Drive** (the folder icon).
    * In Google's file picker, select the files you want to use in Profound. You can select several files at once and browse shared drives.

    Repeat this step whenever you need Profound to reach more files. Files that Profound creates through Agents are available automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify the connection" id="step-4">
    To confirm that Profound can reach a file:

    * In Profound, [create a new Agent](https://help.tryprofound.com/articles/2212787792-create-an-agent), or open an existing Agent draft.
    * Add the [**Get Document**](/integrations/google-drive/using-google-drive-in-agents#get-document) node from the **Google Docs** group, then select your account under **Google Account**.
    * Under **Document**, select one of the files you added in [Step 3](#step-3).
    * Select **Test node** (the play <Icon icon="play" /> icon) and check that the output contains the document text.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  You can also connect Google Drive directly in the Agent builder. Add a Google Docs, Google Sheets, or Google Slides node, open the **Google Account** dropdown in the node settings, and select **+ Add integration**. In the **Manage integrations** dialog, select **+ Add account** and complete the Google sign-in. Google's file picker then opens so you can select files right away.

  Every file dropdown in these nodes also has an **Add files from Google Drive** action that opens the picker for the selected account.
</Tip>

## Revoking access

To disconnect your Google account, go back to **Integrations** > **Google Drive** in Profound settings, open the connected account's **...** menu, and select **Revoke**.

Revoking deletes the tokens Profound stores for the account. Profound also revokes its access with Google, unless the same Google account has other active Google connections in your organization, such as Gmail or Google Search Console. Agent nodes and Knowledge Base imports that use the connection stop working until you connect the account again.

If you remove Profound from your Google account's [third-party access page](https://myaccount.google.com/permissions) instead, the connection in Profound stops working and reports that it needs to be re-authorized. Revoke it in Profound and connect the account again.

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion title="Profound reports that pop-ups are blocked">
    The Google sign-in opens in a pop-up window. Allow pop-ups for Profound in your browser, then select **+ Add account** again.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Profound can't connect the account">
    Closing the Google window before you finish, or declining the requested access, ends the connection attempt. Select **+ Add account** again and complete the sign-in.

    If a node later reports that the integration is missing required Google permissions, the connection was made without all the requested access. Revoke it and connect the account again, allowing everything Profound requests.

  <Accordion title="A node's file dropdown says no files are granted yet">
    Profound can only reach the files you selected in Google's file picker. Select **Add files from Google Drive** in the dropdown or on the account row in **Integrations**, then select the file.

  <Accordion title="A node reports that the integration needs to be re-authorized">
    Google no longer accepts Profound's token for the account. This happens when Profound's access is removed on the Google side. Revoke the connection in Profound and connect the account again.
