# Add and manage organization members

> Invite members to your Profound organization and manage their roles and category access

<Info>
  **Available on**: the Enterprise plan

  **Find it in**: Settings in the organization name menu at the top left of the screen > People

  **Required role**: Admin or custom
</Info>

Admins can add members to their Profound organization from the **Members** tab of the **People** page. Each member gets a role that controls what they can see and do, and category access that controls which categories they can work in. To give a group of members the same categories and shared resources at once, add them to a [team](/platform-config/people/teams/overview).

<Note>
  If your organization uses [Directory Sync](/platform-config/people/directory-sync), you add and remove the synced members through your identity provider instead. [Roles and permissions](/platform-config/people/roles-and-permissions) are always managed in Profound.
</Note>

## Add a member

1. Select your organization name at the top left of the platform, then select **Settings**.
2. Select **People** under **Organization** in the left navigation sidebar. The **People & Permissions** page opens on the **Members** tab.
3. Select **Add User** or **Add External User** if your organization uses [Directory Sync](/platform-config/people/directory-sync).
4. Enter the new member's email address.
5. Under **Category**, choose the categories the member can work in. Keep **Select all** to grant access to every category, or select individual categories.
6. Select a role. For a breakdown of what each role can do, see [Roles and permissions](/platform-config/people/roles-and-permissions). Invitations offer preset roles only. To give the new member a [custom role](/platform-config/people/custom-roles), change their role after they join.
7. To invite several people at once, select **Add another user** and fill in a row for each person, or [import them from a CSV file](#import-members-from-a-csv-file).
8. Select **Send Invitation**.

The invitation appears in the **Pending** list until the new member signs in. To see it, set the **Invite Status** filter to **Pending**.

### Import members from a CSV file

In the invitation dialog, select **Import from CSV** and choose a file with one person per row: email address, then first name and last name (optional). A header row that contains an **email** column is skipped. Each import adds up to 50 rows. If the file has more, only the first 50 are imported.

Imported people appear as rows in the dialog. Check each row's **Category** and **Role** before you select **Send Invitation**.

### How the invitation is delivered

The new member receives an email from `no-reply@auth.mail.tryprofound.com` with a link to sign up. The link takes them to Profound, where they activate their account.

## Find members

The **Members** tab lists every active member of your organization with their email, role, join date, and last sign-in, 25 members per page. To find a member:

* Search by name, email, or role in the **Search members** field.
* Filter by **Role**. The list includes both pre-defined roles and your organization's custom roles.
* Filter by **Last sign-in**: **Signed in last 7 days**, **Signed in last 30 days**, **Inactive 30+ days**, **Inactive 90+ days**, **Inactive 180+ days**, or **Never signed in**.

To download the list of active members as a CSV file with the same columns, select **Export**.

## Manage existing members

* **Change a role**: Select the role next to the member's name and select a new one from the list. The list includes your organization's [custom roles](/platform-config/people/custom-roles).
* **Change category access**: Open the **...** action menu in the member's table row and select **Configure category access**. Select the categories the member can access, or select **Select all**. Hover over a category and select **only** to keep that category alone. A member needs at least one category. Select **Save**.
* **Remove a member**: Open the **...** action menu in the member's table row and select **Remove from organization**, then confirm with **Remove**. They lose access to your organization, and you can invite them again later.

You can manage only members whose permissions are equal to or lower than yours. You can't change your own role or remove yourself.

## Manage pending invitations

Set the **Invite Status** filter to **Pending** to list invitations that haven't been accepted yet, with the assigned role and the invitation date. To cancel an invitation, open its **...** action menu and select **Revoke**, then confirm with **Revoke Invitation**. You can send a new invitation at any time.
