What credits are

Credits are the unit Profound uses to measure the AI work your organization runs: conversations with AI Marketer (Aim), Agent runs, and Sheets that run Agents at scale. Each Profound plan includes a credit allotment, and every piece of AI work draws from that shared balance. The cost of a piece of work depends on how much it does. A short question to Aim about last week’s visibility uses fewer credits than a message that researches a topic, generates images, or drafts an article. A Workflow with a few steps uses fewer credits than an Agent that calls several AI models and reasons through a complex task.

What uses credits

  • AI Marketer conversations: every message you send to Aim consumes credits, whether you chat in the platform, inside a Project, a Profound Doc, a Sheet, or in Slack. The cost of each message reflects the work Aim does to answer it, including any tools it calls and images it generates. When Aim runs one of your Agents, that run is billed as an Agent run.
  • Agent and Workflow runs: every run consumes credits, including test runs in the Agent and Workflow Builders, scheduled runs, runs started from Aim, and runs started through Profound MCP.
  • Sheets runs: a Sheet runs a Workflow once per row, and each row is billed as a run.
  • Prompt Research Reports: generating a Prompt Research Report consumes credits.
Browsing your Answer Engine Insights, Prompt Volumes, and Agent Analytics data doesn’t consume credits.

Pitch workspace credits in Agency Mode are different from the usage credits described on this page. They are a separate allowance for creating and extending pitch workspaces.

Estimate and track credit usage

Admins can check the organization’s credit balance and usage in the organization settings. The estimated cost of a Workflow run also shows before you start it:
  • In the Workflow Builder: hover over Run test to see the Estimated usage for the whole Workflow, or over a node’s Test node button to see the estimate for that node. After a test, Run details shows the Credits used.
  • On a Workflow’s run page: Estimated usage appears before you select Run, and Credits used replaces it once the run completes.
  • In Sheets: the Workflow preview shows the estimated cost to run one row before you run the Sheet. Final credit usage may vary depending on the input and generated output.
Enterprise admins can also set a credit limit per member, so one heavy user can’t consume the organization’s whole balance. A member who reaches their limit can’t run Workflows, Sheets, or Prompt Research Reports until their allocation is increased or the organization balance renews. Their usage still counts toward the organization total.

When you run low or run out

Profound warns you before work stops:
  • Before a costly Workflow run: if the estimated cost is higher than the credits you have left, a dialog warns that This run may exceed your credit limit and shows the projected overage. Confirm to continue, or select Cancel. Sheets runs estimated at 500 credits or more ask you to confirm the high-cost run even when the balance covers it.
  • Overage: depending on how your account is configured, your organization either keeps running on overage credits after the allotment is used, or pauses until the balance renews. While you’re on overage credits, Workflow pages show a Plan limit reached banner. Ask your account team which setting applies to you.
  • Out of credits: Workflow pages show Agent runs disabled and Run test is unavailable. Work resumes when the balance renews or your account team adds credits.
  • Per-user limit reached: only that member is blocked. The rest of the organization keeps running.
  • Trial: when trial credits run out, Profound asks you to update your plan to Enterprise.

Do API calls consume credits?

No. Pulling data from the Profound API doesn’t consume credits. Credits are only charged where AI work runs: an Aim conversation, an Agent or Workflow run, a Sheet run, or a Prompt Research Report, including runs you start through Profound MCP.
